My Bio
I have a creative writing degree that I'm struggling to find a professional job for. Struggling to write anything original. Writing lots of fanfiction so I guess that's something? My ultimate goal is to be a novelist. We'll see. Anxiety and depression fight me every step of the way. I'm trying to keep myself sane by working on a novel, reading every book I can get my hands on, drawing, painting, taking pictures, making props, cosplaying, and generally just making sure I stay creative.

Ohayocon 2015

0 min read
So one of the few bright spots of 2015 thus far was Ohayocon. I went with a great group of friends and debuted THREE new costumes. (So two of them are essentially closet cosplays but still, they look cool) Pictures will be uploaded after I publish this very short journal entry, because I'm not sure what else to say and the pictures will probably say it better anyway.

2015 Reboot

0 min read
To put it simply, 2014 was a shitty year and I'm so glad it's over. Everything went wrong - lost my job, family problems, friend problems, health problems, money problems....you name it. I'm trying to claw my way out of the darkness but it's extremely difficult and we're two months into 2015 and I'm still barely hanging on.

So as those of you who watch my page are probably aware, I have been to ColossalCon for the first time now and it was freaking EPIC!!! (Even if I was working on my costumes up until an hour before I drove to the con but that's beside the point haha) My very first ColossalCon was a huge success in every way, shape, and form. My newly debuted costumes went over amazingly, as did my classics!! I had pictures taken of me professionally while I was dressed as X-23 and when I was dressed as Princess Kida! I got to play with my fancy new camera and got some great shots, although next time I will leave it on automatic settings so I don't have insane

I came here to thank you for the fave. Then I read your profile, and...

"I have a creative writing degree that I'm struggling to find a professional job for. Struggling to write anything original. Writing lots of fanfiction so I guess that's something? My ultimate goal is to be a novelist. We'll see. Anxiety and depression fight me every step of the way."

...holy god, Deja vu! Right down to the anxiety and depression! (Actually, I don't know for a fact that I have Depression per se, but I've certainly had suicidal thoughts.) So I guess I'm here to express my sympathies and amazement at how identical our stories seem to be....

...though, in retrospect, it might not be that remarkable. I imagine a lot of people who grow up wanting to be novelists get writing degrees, have mental issues, get addicted to fan-fiction, and struggle to compete in the job market.

Fanfiction's a great way to practice writing and get feedback on it. But (maybe you already know this) I will warn you about writing more than one chapter story at once. To say it will get in the way of the novel you're working on is an understatement.

Best of luck with your writing career!
That is a really similar background, wow.  It's always great to hear from someone who knows what you're going through, both creative-goal-wise and mental-health-wise.

For me, fanfiction is a calming outlet, and I personally need to have more than one project going at once. Kinda given up on the whole novel idea right now anyway, since I hate everything I come up with. Trying to get back to some poetry and short essays like I was working on in college, maybe try a short story here too.  We'll see if a format change helps.

Thanks, and best of luck with your artistic endeavors. =)
